Terms of Service

Last updated: 18 April 2026

These terms govern your use of FLOAT. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. We wrote this in plain language so you actually know what you are agreeing to.

1. What FLOAT is

FLOAT is a financial education and planning tool. It helps you understand where your money goes, set savings goals, track your progress toward financial freedom, and get personalised guidance from an AI-powered Money Mentor.

FLOAT is designed for people in South Africa, though anyone can use it. It uses South African tax brackets, investment products, and financial norms to provide relevant guidance.

2. What FLOAT is not (important)

FLOAT is not a licensed financial services provider. It is not registered with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) and does not provide regulated financial advice as defined in the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (FAIS).

Everything FLOAT tells you, including suggestions from your Money Mentor, spending analysis, Freedom Day calculations, and investment allocation guidance, is educational in nature. It is not financial advice, tax advice, or investment recommendations.

You are responsible for your own financial decisions. Before making significant financial choices, consider consulting a qualified and FSCA-registered financial adviser.

3. Your responsibilities

When you use FLOAT, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information — FLOAT can only help you if your income, expenses, and financial data are reasonably accurate. Garbage in, garbage out.
  • Keep your account secure — do not share your password or let others access your account. You are responsible for all activity on your account.
  • Use FLOAT lawfully — do not use the app for money laundering, fraud, or any illegal purpose.
  • Not reverse-engineer the app — do not attempt to copy, decompile, or extract the source code of FLOAT.

4. Market data and AI accuracy

Exchange rates, cryptocurrency prices, and stock prices shown in FLOAT come from third-party APIs and may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. Do not make financial decisions based solely on data shown in FLOAT. Always verify important numbers from authoritative sources.

FLOAT uses AI to parse bank statements, categorise transactions, and generate financial insights. AI processing may contain errors. Transaction categories, spending analysis, and Freedom Day calculations are estimates based on the data you provide. Review and verify anything important.

5. Intellectual property

FLOAT, including its design, code, content, and the FLOAT name and logo, belongs to FLOAT. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on FLOAT without written permission.

Your data belongs to you. We do not claim ownership over any financial information, documents, or content you provide to FLOAT. You can export or delete it at any time.

6. Limitation of liability

FLOAT is provided as-is. We do our best to keep it accurate, secure, and available, but we cannot guarantee it will be error-free or uninterrupted.

To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, FLOAT and its operator are not liable for any financial losses, missed opportunities, incorrect calculations, data processing errors, or any other damages arising from your use of the app. This includes direct, indirect, incidental, and consequential damages.

In particular, if FLOAT calculates your Freedom Day, suggests an investment allocation, or categorises a transaction incorrectly, you agree that you will not hold FLOAT liable for any financial decisions you made based on that information.

7. Account termination

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings page. When you do, all your data is permanently and immediately deleted. This cannot be undone. We recommend exporting your data first if you want a backup.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, are used for illegal activity, or are used to abuse the service. If we do this, we will try to give you notice and an opportunity to export your data first, unless the violation is severe.

8. Your data rights

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and as described in our Privacy Policy, you have the right to access, correct, export, and delete your personal data at any time.

You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app through the Settings page. For anything else, email privacy@myfloat.app.

9. Pricing

FLOAT is currently free to use. We may introduce paid features in the future. If we do, we will give you clear notice and any free features you currently use will remain free or you will be given reasonable notice before any changes.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of FLOAT will be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app and update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of FLOAT after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
